I've decided to make a little post here whenever I grab stuff on Bandcamp Fridays. If you don't know what that is, it just means that Bandcamp waives their rev share for the day. So when you buy something, the artist gets all the money (after fees).
Vol.II by Angine de Poitrine
Alien rock music. Even more apt once you see some live footage of this group. These tunes force me to bob my head while also being completely impossible to count. Microtonal and wonky rhythms. The double-neck guitar/bass they use is an abomination (affectionate).
The New Sound by Geordie Greep
Experimental jazzy funky rock... is one way to put it. You'll recognize Greep's vocals if you're familiar with Black Midi, though he's even more crooning and lyrical here. The album is full of absurdly good session musician performances that were all done more-or-less on the spot, with no prior knowledge of the music. The lyrics of the album also tell a uh... pretty fucked up story. It's quite uncomfortable, but the production and performances make it go down so smooth.
KairĂ³s by Vael
Powerful and energetic folk music from Madrid. Uses tons of traditional instruments, so it's got that good rustic sound. Combined with such strong vocals, this album just has a compelling electric current running through it.
Primeval: Obsession // Detachment by Tallah
This is kinda like if Linkin Park went way harder and leaned more towards metalcore and prog. Infectious riffs, super raw vocals with a wide range of expression, and lots of cool atmospheres created with some odd instrument and sound design choices. I also found it interesting to learn the drummer here, Max Portnoy, is the son of Dream Theater's Mike Portnoy.
PsychoWarrior: MG Ultra X: The Remixes [Minus One] by Machine Girl
I was pretty let down by the original PsychoWarrior: MG Ultra X mostly because it felt like an uninspired continuation of MG Ultra (one of my favorite albums of 2024). Well, this remix album brings the variety and super fucked up energy that I was hoping for. Not all the remixes hit for me. Some I kind of even strongly dislike... but the ones that do hit for me really hit.
