A Winter Book
Tove Jansson

Most of the stories in this collection didn’t really click with me, but even when that was the case they never failed to paint a fascinating child’s daydream-like picture of a life and place so far from my own.

Tove has a way of blurring the line between fiction and reality in a way that I’m still unsure which stories in this collection are which.

The third section of the book had the stuff I found most interesting: Miscellaneous letters from an old woman to her many different relations. Extremely sweet fan letters from a girl in Japan. Random amusing snippets of messages Tove received over the years. My favorite of the whole book was “Travelling Light”, which was none of these things.
